Our post sets allow you to assemble your dome on a smaller site area than you would need if using 2 shipping containers. Traditionally container domes are attached to the inside of 2 shipping containers, each measuring approximately 2.44m wide.  However, with a one container and a pole set configuration, it’s possible to maximise the site footprint, especially if space is a premium.

For instance, a typical 2 container and dome shelter setup means each container is 2.44m wide, plus the width of the shelter itself. For a 20ft (6m) wide dome shelter, the total length of the footprint is (6m +4.88m = 10.8m). Using a double shipping container configuration, you’ll need a minimum of a 10.8m wide x 6m deep space to fit the entire shelter. In addition to that, we recommend at least an additional 1m safe working zone around the entire shelter footprint.

Using a single post set with one 20 ft/6 m shipping container and a 20ft/6m wide dome shelter, all you need is an 8.8m wide x 6m deep footprint (plus 1m clearance all around). Basically, if you don’t have the space, and you’ve only got one shipping container, the container and post set is a good option – and the undercover area remains at 36.2 (6m shelter width and a 6m long shipping container).

Multi-use shelter

To really make use of your space (especially if you’re looking for a multi-use shelter), a single shipping container with 2 post sets on either side can also be a smart solution. With this configuration, you can still secure your items in the lockable container, yet have massive undercover storage areas either side. Using a single 12 foot (6m) shipping container and 2 post sets with shelters, you get 72m2 of under canopy shelter, plus 14.4m2 of shipping container storage – totalling 86.4m2 of weatherproof shelter at your disposal.

Base plate, main bearer and truss connector assembly

Assembling the posts and eaves rail requires some basic welding. The trussed roof base plate connectors must be welded to the main post set bearer. From there, the roof trusses are bolted to each of the base plates separately.
